After-School Tutoring

"The Project Success tutoring program is invaluable for many of our students.  It affords them the opportunity for more teacher facilitated time on task they would otherwise not have.  This additional time increases the likelihood the student will succeed academically."
District #61 - Elementary Principal

Project Success provides after school tutoring at all Decatur public elementary schools. Certified teachers and teaching assistants provide tutoring in core subject areas from October to May. Students must be referred for specific academic assistance at tutoring sessions by their classroom teachers. This service is free to all students!

During the 2007-2008 school year, 43 tutors worked with 650 students in 15 schools.  Sessions were also provided at the Boys and Girls Club.  Last year 50 % of the  students who participated improved in at least one core subject, and 86% of those students improved/maintained their grades!

New this year: Project Success is working in partnership with the Education Coalition and its "Team Two" pilot at two elementary schools to add adult volunteers to these sessions.  As a part of this partnership, bus transportation is being offered for the first time as part of these sessions.  With the addition of transportation more students are able to remain after school to get the help they need.
